PhD in Egyptology (ref. BAP-2018-263)

The research group Egyptology at KU Leuven forms part of the research unit Archaeology, Art History, and Musicology. Within Flanders we offer the only academic curriculum in Egyptology. Our teaching and research cover a wide range of topics in Egyptian archaeology and philology. A new research focus is the study of the history of Egyptology. From this perspective the Egyptology group coordinates the new EOS project ‘Pyramids and Progress: Belgian Expansionism and the Making of Egyptology, 1830-1952’, a collaborative project between KU Leuven, UGent, ULB, the Royal Museums of Arts and History in Brussels, and the Musée Royal de Mariemont. This project is funded by FWO Vlaanderen and F.R.S./FNRS. The PIs are Egyptologists, modern historians, and museum curators, and the project will engage several postdoctoral fellows, PhD students, IT staff, archivists and documentalists. The present vacancy is for the PhD candidate stationed at KU Leuven.
