L’histoire de la théologie contemporaine commence à voir émerger un renouvellement d’approches. À côté de l’analyse d’un objet particulier dans le discours théologique, d’autres recherches explorent le statut de la théologie et de son énonciation, ainsi que le statut des théologiens, dans une démarche d’histoire sociale et culturelle des savoirs. Ces études ont montré à quel point l’histoire de la théologie demeure trop dépendante du « grand récit » construit par les théologiens eux-mêmes, lequel s’impose aux historiens du religieux. Ce colloque entend poursuivre dans ce sens et cherche à rassembler des historiens travaillant sur la production et la publication des savoirs théologiques, du temps des restaurations européennes à la période du Concile Vatican II, période décisive pour la reconfiguration de la place des théologiens dans le monde des savoirs et des savants, ainsi que dans les églises. Du point de vue de l’histoire religieuse, l’usage d’un tel questionnaire permet-il de revoir la chronologie de l’histoire du christianisme et conduit-il à se dégager des périodisations des récits dominants sur le devenir du catholicisme dans le premier âge contemporain.

Partant d’un agenda d’histoire des savoirs, les communications pourront porter à la fois sur des questions relatives à la publication/édition (axe 1) et à la production/écriture (axe 2) du savoir dogmatique qu’est la théologique.

CONSIGNES AUX COMMUNICANTS

Les propositions (en français, anglais, néerlandais, allemand ou italien) faisant entre 3000 et 5000 signes maximum (comprenant un titre et accompagnées d’une note bio-bibliographique) doivent être envoyées à martin.dutron@uclouvain.be, jpgay@ucclouvain.be et sylvio.defranceschi@ephe.psl.eu. Elles seront lues et évaluées par le comité scientifique.
Les communications n’excéderont pas les 30 minutes, permettant ainsi 5 à 10 minutes de questions et de discussion lors des trois journées de colloque.
Les contributions, après examen des textes par le comité, feront l’objet d’une publication en 2021.

We are currently witnessing a methodological renewal of the investigation of theology as an historical object. On the one hand historians still turn to the analysis of particular subject matters in theological discourse (such as for instance studies of how theologians discussed issues ranging from the more theological such as grace to the more practical such as fasting or one’s obligation to pay taxes). On the other hand, another type of studies explores the status of theology and of theological discourse, as well as the status of theologians, with reference to question and methods coming from a social and cultural history of knowledge. Such studies have shown how the history of theology remains too dependent on the “great narrative” elaborated by the theologians themselves. This great narrative has a strong hold on religious history. This conference intends to continue this line of investigation by bringing together historians working on the production and publication of theological knowledge in Catholic Europe, from the early 19th century to the Second Vatican Council. This final stage of the so-called “Tridentine era” appears as decisive for the reconfiguration of the place of theologian in the world of knowledge, as well as within the Church. From the point of view of religious history, does the use of such a questionnaire make it possible to review the chronology of the history of Christianity and to change the dominant narratives on the history of Catholicism in the first part of the modern era?
Building on an agenda of history of knowledge, the papers may address both issues related to publication/publishing (orientation 1) and to the production/writing (orientation 2) of the dogmatic knowledge that is theology.
